Japan Certificate of Eligibility (COE) Guide

在留資格認定証明書申請ガイド

The Certificate of Eligibility (COE / 在留資格認定証明書) is a document issued by Japan's Immigration Services Agency that pre-approves your eligibility for a specific visa category. Having a COE makes your visa application at a Japanese embassy almost guaranteed to be approved.

What Is a Certificate of Eligibility?

Think of the COE as a pre-approval for your visa. It's a document that Immigration in Japan issues after verifying your eligibility. You then take this document to a Japanese embassy/consulate in your country to get the actual visa stamp.
